My work has evolved over the past 25 years from inward to outward; from very close personal portraits of myself and my family, to autobiographical projects about the lives of women as perceived by me, to pure documentary and street photography as well as portraiture for both public and private clients.
I have been photographing people for a long time, but never tire of children and teenagers, who I find refreshing, idiosyncratic, and constantly inspirational. I aspire to picture the poignancy of this time in their lives.
A more recent strand has been quirky, experimental documentary/fashion work. My work is always evolving and the commissioned work strives to preserve the sense of intimacy and freedom of the personal pictures. Most of my work has been in colour using medium format analogue media, but recently incorporating digital technology.
The retrospective of pictures here represents some of the different strands of my practice. My archive has reached a considerable breadth and diversity whilst, hopefully, retaining my personal vision, which stems from everyday life.
My work has been widely published and exhibited both nationally and internationally in many forms and contexts. I have received many awards and commissions and was the Fellow of Photography at the National Museum of Photography Film and Television, Bradford, Yorkshire in 1991/92.
My pictures are in many national and international collections, public and private. My commercial work includes editorial, corporate and advertising, as well as small businesses and private commissions.
